MUSC Childrens Hospital

Last Monday I had the opportunity to go shadow a doctor at the MUSC childrens hospital in Charleston, SC. It was one of the best experiences of my life to shadow her, and other child life specialist who are doing what I am dying to do one day!
This is the doctor who I was able to shadow. She was such a sweet, intelligent lady, who gave me alot of information about what to expect when I get a job in this field one day!
In the play room they had a station set up where kids could play with the doll and do surgery on them. I thought this was so cute!
This was a picture of the "atrium". Kids can go there to get away before they have a surgery done or whenever they get tired of being in their hospital room. They had a easel for painting, a sandbox, a jewelry making table, a library, a "playhouse", a library, a "Teens ONLY" lounge where they had computers for facebook, xbox's, wiis, and any other kind of video game! You cant see it good in this picture but where the man is sitting, there was a girl who was about 5 years old who had cancer, and she was absolutely gorgeous! My heart just broke for her!
These are dolls that churches make and send to the child life specialist. They give the dolls to the patients, and the patients can draw on them (alot of them draw where they have scars from surgeries). They also teach the children to preform the surgery on the doll so they can be a little more calm when they go in for their surgery. I was so excited that they gave me a doll!
When I was working with one of the child life specialist, we were asked to put together a kit for a 8 year old girl who was having surgery the next day, we put everything in there that the doctors would be using on her, and gave her a doll so she could practice on her doll what was about to be done on her!

We went Sunday morning, so I could tour the town and see how pretty it was! This is a picture of rainbow row!
There were horse and carraige rides everywhere!!
I sound crazy saying this, but we were SHOCKED and EXCITED about how pretty our room is!! I wouldve been perfectly fine with living there forever!!
They gave us goody bags with earplugs, eye mask, linen spray, and a few other things. It doesnt take much to make Me and my Mama excited!!

Even though I am 100% broke, we decided to go to the outlet mall!!

I thought the food court was so cute :)

Mama and Daddy,

Thank you so much for talking to Dr. Bailey about letting me come and shadow!! It was such a neat experience! I was so scared I was going to get there and realize it was NOTHING like I thought it would be, but I sure was wrong!! I know this is where my heart is, and I cannot wait to work with those little kids! Thank you for taking an interest in my life and my career choice and supporting me more than I could have asked for!! I will never forget this trip!!! I LOVE YOU!

Spring Break 2011

I spent the beginning of my spring break touring a hospital in Charleston, SC for a possible internship, but I do not have all the pictures for that yet... so that'll be another post :)

Since I am a poor, broke, jobless, college student I didnt have the money to go anywhere other than Albany, GA for spring break! But it did not bother me one bit! I got to spend a good amount of time with my family, wonderful boyfriend, and good friends. Here is just a few pictures from this past week!

I got to spend time with my boyfriend! He cannot EVER take a serious picture!! :)
I killed a snake with a bb gun!

I supported my brother at one of his baseball games!

Me and my new friend, Anna Marie!
Mama and her friend Wendy at the game
Anthony worked alot while I was in town, But for St. Patricks Day, I got to steal him and make him take me to dinner!! :) I love this picture because you can tell we are both about to die laughing!!
My friend Geordan went with us to Applebees.
I got to spend time with sweet baby Avery.
Geordan came over... and we got Krispy Kreme as always.

I supported my brother at ANOTHER baseball game.

Everyone laughed at me when I told them I was spending my spring break in Albany, but even if I had the money, I wouldnt have spent it any other way! I loved being around all my favorite people. I loved going to lunch every day with my sweet boyfriend -I think I made him go broke doing that :(. I loved watching movies every night with my family, I loved going to some of my brothers LAST baseball games. I loved getting a pedicure with my new friend Anna Marie. I loved visiting with my great grandma. I loved laying out by the pool every day. I loved being able to spend time with Anthony every day. I loved cooking out with my family and boyfriend. I loved being able to dress cute, instead of bumming it to class every day! I loved spending time with baby Avery. I loved sitting at the mall with Anthony and people watching. I loved going to Charleston with my mama, we had a BLAST! ..... and last but not least, i LOVED every conversation that was about graduating in MAY!!!!!

Happy Birthday Mimi!!!

Happy Birthday MIMI!!!!!!! I hope you had a wonderful day today!! Wish I could have been there to celebrate with you!!!

Thank you for being such a wonderful grandmother to me. Many people arent as blessed as I am to still have all of my grandparents living. I think of you not only as my Mimi, but youve been like a second mom and friend to me.
Thank you for not being the "typical" grandma. Im so glad that your fun to be around, dress nice, constantly on the go, and call me every day! You wouldnt be as fun if you just sat around all day like alot of other peoples grandmas! :)

I hope that I am half the person that you are when I become your age one day. Thank you for being such a strong Christian example to me. I hope you know that I look up to you.

I love your southern accent. Your stupid comments. and your fried chicken, cornbread, and poundcake!!
I love that my friends refer to you as Mimi!
Mimi,
I hope you had an unforgettable birthday!! I sure do love you!! I am looking forward to being home for spring break and being able to spend some time with you!! Thank you for everything youve done for me.. You make me smile!! I love you....

"Almost" Perfect weekend!

What I thought was going to be one of the longest weekends of my life, turned out to be an "almost" perfect weekend!! The only thing that would have made it better would be seeing my daddy, brother, and other grandparents!!
The weekend started off Friday night by working on a project at Starbucks.. Luckily, my good friend Callie was able to come spend a few minutes with me! Im so proud of this girl.. if you are interested in having a "photo session" you need to contact this girl! She does amazing pictures!! http://www.calliebealephotography.com
Saturday, my Mama and Mimi came to visit me. It was a special visit for them, because not only did they get to see me, they got to see my Moms best friend from when she was my age and even younger! I dont think they have seen each other in 10+ years! Amazingly enough, her daughter Aubrey is in several of my psychology classes... talk about a small world! Its been so much fun getting to know my moms old best friends daughter!!
The two best friends and their daughters.
All of us outside of Smokin' Pig
Mama and Ms. Dana... It was so neat to watch them pick up where they left off so many years ago! I thought they were going to cry when they hugged after just seeing each other!!
Another CRAZY part of this, is my roommate Mechelle is really good friends with Aubrey, and Mechelles aunt is now best friends with Ms. Dana.. Its so neat how the Lord all brought our lives together!
While at the restaurant, we told them that it was Mimis birthday! We were so mad though that they did not bring any dessert! Thats supposed to be the main reason you tell them its your birthday, right??
Also, while we were at the restaurant, our waitress brought me this napkin from an old man across the restaurant.... Can you say creeper??
Me and Mimi back at my place.
2 of my favorite women!
My wonderful friend/roomie Mechelle!
I just had to take this picture! I thought they looked so cute today sleeping together!
Today I took a break from studying and met Geordan and Anthony in Tifton to eat! It was so much fun to be able to meet up with them and laugh and get my mind off of this stressful week ahead!
Me and Geordan.

So all in all it was an "almost" perfect weekend!! I got to spend time with some of my favorite people! I just wish a few more could have joined!! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!!!
