MUSC Childrens Hospital

Last Monday I had the opportunity to go shadow a doctor at the MUSC childrens hospital in Charleston, SC. It was one of the best experiences of my life to shadow her, and other child life specialist who are doing what I am dying to do one day!
This is the doctor who I was able to shadow. She was such a sweet, intelligent lady, who gave me alot of information about what to expect when I get a job in this field one day!
In the play room they had a station set up where kids could play with the doll and do surgery on them. I thought this was so cute!
This was a picture of the "atrium". Kids can go there to get away before they have a surgery done or whenever they get tired of being in their hospital room. They had a easel for painting, a sandbox, a jewelry making table, a library, a "playhouse", a library, a "Teens ONLY" lounge where they had computers for facebook, xbox's, wiis, and any other kind of video game! You cant see it good in this picture but where the man is sitting, there was a girl who was about 5 years old who had cancer, and she was absolutely gorgeous! My heart just broke for her!
These are dolls that churches make and send to the child life specialist. They give the dolls to the patients, and the patients can draw on them (alot of them draw where they have scars from surgeries). They also teach the children to preform the surgery on the doll so they can be a little more calm when they go in for their surgery. I was so excited that they gave me a doll!
When I was working with one of the child life specialist, we were asked to put together a kit for a 8 year old girl who was having surgery the next day, we put everything in there that the doctors would be using on her, and gave her a doll so she could practice on her doll what was about to be done on her!
Me and Mama :)
We went Sunday morning, so I could tour the town and see how pretty it was! This is a picture of rainbow row!
There were horse and carraige rides everywhere!!
I sound crazy saying this, but we were SHOCKED and EXCITED about how pretty our room is!! I wouldve been perfectly fine with living there forever!!
They gave us goody bags with earplugs, eye mask, linen spray, and a few other things. It doesnt take much to make Me and my Mama excited!!

Even though I am 100% broke, we decided to go to the outlet mall!!
Mama and I again!!

I thought the food court was so cute :)

Mama and Daddy,

Thank you so much for talking to Dr. Bailey about letting me come and shadow!! It was such a neat experience! I was so scared I was going to get there and realize it was NOTHING like I thought it would be, but I sure was wrong!! I know this is where my heart is, and I cannot wait to work with those little kids! Thank you for taking an interest in my life and my career choice and supporting me more than I could have asked for!! I will never forget this trip!!! I LOVE YOU!
